solidarity project
This is a small design study in political imagination. As an artist and designer, the pattern I notice is that the far-right has successfully captured our collective imagination around one shared future: apocalypse. Most of us respond the way a nervous system responds to threat: freeze, collapse, scroll. This project is a set of directives against that: drawing on Baldwin, Lorde, Morrison, Walker, Davis, Shakur, adrienne maree brown and musicans/poets, each piece asks the viewer to imagine something else, right now.
Instagram Story Carousel, combining the ethereal elements of dreaming, imagination, with the revolutionary intent of shifting out of fear into freedom states.
Ethereal directives held as a daily practice. The use of sub-culture references like ‘red-pill’ to conjure up free thinking approaches to solidarity / peace / collective liberation.
Elders like Baldwin can speak directly to this moment with specific instructions.
Direct calls to action that are rooted in tactile, immediate, human interactions, not digital interfaces or abstract concepts and call upon people to form solidarity in networks of geographic location, forming networks of mutual aid, care and collaboration.
Comparative study of parental leave across the world compared the US, demonstrating to people who are overworked and under supported that there is another way to live and our systems are failing by all measures of comparison.
